Autosport International: a great start to 2012

Autosport International, the UK�s premiere Motorsport-focussed show, has been and gone in a blur and took everyone by surprise by being the busiest, most eventful and most successful show for 10 years or more!

A packed NEC saw superb crowds from all corners of the globe thronging into the UK�s �season starter� and the Milltek team were pleased to welcome a great many of them onto their stand, where their latest exhaust fitments and Audi RS3 demo car seemed to strike quite a chord.

Milltek�s reach extended far beyond the grey carpet of their own stand, they had a number of show cars featuring their products spread out across the NEC including: 850bhp Time Attack Nissan GT-R thrilling crowds in the Live Action Arena, VW Scirocco and VW Golf GTi Mk6 on the Volkswagen Racing stand, BTCC VW Golf on the Pipercross stand, Milltek�s own VW Golf R on the Shark Performance stand and a Jaguar XKR on the Adamesh stand.

Milltek in Motorsport for 2012
Being a genuine motorsports show, Milltek chose to launch their brand new range of ultra-lightweight FIA-approved motorsport catalysts which proved extremely popular among racing teams and spectators alike.

The Milltek name has always been synonymous with motorsport and the Autosport show saw them confirm an even greater involvement in motor racing for 2012 with sponsorship of the UK Time Attack series as well as sponsoring Time Attack competitor Richard Marshall and his orange 850bhp Nissan GT-R (which is actually no longer orange but an equally colourful shade of green!).

As a long-standing sponsor of Volkswagen Racing here in the UK, Milltek has announced that it�s stepping up to take a more active role in the series and will be providing more than just racing exhaust solutions to all the teams. More information will be released very shortly�

New mandatory MOT test items from 2012

If you've been happily ignoring a warning light because it's not checked in the MOT you could be facing an MOT failure and an expensive repair bill in 2012 because of changes to the test.

The Department for Transport is adding a number of new mandatory test items to the annual MOT from 1 January 2012 to comply with a revised European testing directive.

The aim of the revised directive (2009/40/EC) is to harmonise minimum test requirements across Europe and make sure the test reflects the electrical/electronic complexity of modern car safety features.

VOSA, the government agency responsible for the MOT, has indicated that 'failures' relating to the new test items will be treated as 'advisories' in the first three months. This means that if you have any of the following problems with your car you've got until the first MOT renewal date after 1 April 2012 to get it fixed.

Breakthrough Product Launch
Autosport 2012 sees the launch of a genuinely exciting range of products � the Ultra-Light Hi-Flow Sports Catalyst.

Milltek�s German hi-flow sports catalyst partner, HJS, has developed a range of FIA-approved motorsport catalysts that are a spectacular 30% lighter than the regular HJS FIA-approved catalysts (and a massive 50% lighter than competitors� products!).

The new Ultra-Light Catalysts are exclusively available from Milltek Sport.

Vauxhall Corsa VXR N�rburgring in testing

Milltek are currently testing a 70mm (pipe diameter) stainless steel performance exhaust system with a twin-box rear silencer design for the Vauxhall Corsa VXR N�rburgring special edition.

It's been developed with three different Tailpipe tip options:

90mm Polished
100mm Polished, and;
100mm Titanium

Regardless of which tailpipe option you choose, the system offers perfectly balanced sound quality.

Range Rover Sport TDV6 performance exhaust system from Milltek Sport

The Range Rover Sport 2.7 and 3.0 TDV6 are big vehicles in more ways than one and Milltek Sport is proud to unveil a stainless steel exhaust system which not only increases performance but introduces a wonderfully sporty exhaust note that will thrill the driver but is not remotely intrusive to passengers.

Perhaps one of the main attractions of the Milltek system will be the way it looks. Milltek designed the aesthetics of their system to work in harmony with the rest of the car and it certainly shows - it doesn�t look like an after-thought like some many other aftermarket systems can do.

Milltek has opted to use a larger 60mm diameter for each of the dual pipes that carry exhaust gasses away from the engine and this allows the turbo to spool up quicker. Quicker spool-up results in better throttle response and an increase in torque lower down in the rev range where it�s most needed on turbo-diesel vehicles.

Milltek�s development Range Rover Sport, a 3.0 TDV6 HSE, was taken to AmD Tuning who remapped the ECU for more power and better economy. The car was dyno tested before and after the modifications and it showed massive gains of 60bhp and 100lb/ft of torque. Increasing torque is not just about making the car go with more conviction; it also has the side-effect of improving economy due to using less throttle to get to the same speed on the road.

The Range Rover Sport TDV6 exhaust fits the 2.7 and 3.0 models in S, SE and HSE specification.

New Range Rover Evoque gets more power

Milltek Sport has completed testing of a stainless steel high-performance cat-back exhaust system for the brand new Range Rover Evoque.

Initial impressions are that the new exhaust system has given the car a more responsive throttle and a heightened-sense of speed from behind the wheel. As for the sound, it's now deeper and has more in common with a petrol-powered car but without any noticable increase in volume inside the cabin.

We can now confirm that the Milltek exhaust fits all models of the Range Rover Evoque - 5-door & Coup� / TD4 & SD4 / Pure & Prestige all use the same exhaust with tailpipes as shown in the photos. The Dynamic models also use same exhaust system but retains the standard tailpipes that are fitted into the rear bumper to give the ultimate stealth upgrade.

As standard, our development car (an SD4 coupe kindly loaned to us by AmD Essex) was measured at 192.8 hp and 298.1 lb/ft (Land Rover quote 190hp). The car was then remapped by AmD Essex and fitted with the Milltek exhaust system. The Evoque was then put back on the dyno and re-tested - it showed a massive 80lbs/ft increase at 2500rpm, low-down in the rev-range, where it really counts in a turbo-diesel

The customer is very happy with the exhaust, saying "The combination of an AmD remap with the Milltek exhaust gives the Evoque a much needed increase in bottom end response and improved pull throughout the rev range as well as improving fuel economy".

Audi A4 Black Edition 2.0 TDI quad-outlet performance exhaust system

Milltek Sport has released yet another performance exhaust system to match the needs of the growing Audi A4 customer-base - a Quad-outlet cat-back system for the Audi A4 Black Edition 2.0 TDI (shown here on Milltek's own 170PS model).

Initial reports are extremely encouraging with some testers actually believing the development car had had an ECU remap (which it had not!). Due to the larger bore pipework and optimal flow characteristics of the Milltek system, the reduction in backpressure is significant - which translates directly to how the car feels to drive.

Not only does the quad tailpipes make the rear of the car look a lot more sporty but it also gives the car a much deeper, smoother and more petrol-like sound without being remotely droning inside the cabin.

Mini Cooper S Coup� joins Milltek's Fast Fleet

Having only just taken delivery of their Audi RS3, Milltek Sport have now further expanded their collection of high-performance vehicles to include the new Mini Coup� Cooper S.

The new Cooper S Coup� uses the same 1.6 turbo engine as the hatchback and it's an engine with which Milltek has gained a great deal of experience in working with through active co-operation with some of the top Mini tuners around the World.

Back in 2006, Milltek purchased their own Mk2 Mini Cooper S hatch and went on to produce one of the most successful product ranges to hit the new Mini tuning scene. Milltek will be looking to build on that success and are confident of producing a range of World-class performance-enhancing exhaust products.

Milltek's Mini Coupe will be on the exhibition stand of their German tuning partner, SKN Tuning, at this year's Essen Motor Show between 26th November and 4th December at Essen in Germany.

Milltek GT-R Attacks Snetterton for final Time Attack

On Sunday 25th September 2011, Milltek�s Nissan GT-R took the fight to the regular Time Attack competitors at the newly refurbished Snetterton race circuit near Norfolk for the final round of the 2011 season.

The main reason for the Time Attack expedition was to test the performance and durability of our brand new 90mm (3.5-inch) Nissan GT-R Racing exhaust system - what better way to do it than fit it to long term Milltek user (and abuser) Richard Marshall's awesome Litchfield Imports-prepared Nissan GT-R and blast it around Snetterton for the day!

Taking part in the Pro class alongside some of the fastest cars in country, our GT-R managed, not only to use half a tank of fuel in just 31 miles(!), but most impressively, finished 2nd overall. We were actually leading the pack until the last 3 minutes where it was finally bettered by the overall season winner Gavin Renshaw in a track-prepared Mitsubishi Evo IX. Quite simply, it was an outstanding performance from, Richard Marshall, his Nissan GT-R and the Milltek 90mm race system!

Because we hadn�t taken part in the whole season we weren�t eligible for an award but it was a great day and everyone was very welcoming!

Rest assured that we�ll be back next year. In the meantime, we�ve swapped over to some new wheels and tyres and are heading straight off to Bedford Autodrome on Monday to try to win the �How Fast� challenge�

New Golf GTi Mk6 makes progress towards the front in Volkswagen Racing Cup

Fresh from its best track showing to date, Europe�s newest racing Volkswagen looks set to end its maiden season of competition on a high note. In only its third weekend of racing, the Volkswagen Racing UK-developed Mk VI Golf GTI sped to its maiden pole position at Rockingham, and only narrowly missed out on a podium finish.

Driven by saloon ace Nick Beaumont, the new Golf posted sixth and fourth-place finishes in the latest rounds of the Volkswagen Racing Cup with FUCHS Lubricants and, says Nick, there is plenty more to come.

�The new Golf has been a challenge,� adds Beaumont. �We have been developing the car in front of people at the circuits with nothing to hide. The first time the car ran was the Monday before the Brands Hatch race weekend in June, with very good results from the start - the potential was there to be seen in the car.

�Then we went to Zandvoort and found some time in the car, but not enough. For Rockingham the team made a very big step forward to make the Golf very competitive right from the first test on Friday afternoon; this was a shock to a few people in the pit lane. From then on we were really able to show the potential that we knew was there from the outset.�

The Mk VI Golf differs from the previous model in many key areas, not least the engine, which is a completely new 2.0-litre turbocharged unit which Volkswagen Racing UK has, with the assistance of Superchips and a Milltek Sport exhaust system, tuned to produce 250bhp.

�The new engine has very good torque and delivers the power well and, combined with the chassis modifications, it really is a completely new race car, the next generation of Golf GTI, and I believe it will win many races and, in the future, the championship,� says Nick.

Volkswagen Racing UK Director Melissa Wright says the Mk VI - which races in livery celebrating 35 years of the Golf GTI - is a welcome addition to the grid of the Volkswagen Racing Cup with FUCHS Lubricants: �We are delighted to embrace the new Golf because its technology is exactly that which buyers of new showroom Volkswagen models find in their cars.

�The technology within the Mk V Golf, which is a favourite with many competitors, is 10 years old now, and the Mk VI will take over. That said, older models of Volkswagen will always be welcome in the championship because diversity is one of its many attractions.�

Volkswagen Racing UK is now able to offer customer versions of the Mk VI Golf GTI. Dependant on the specification required, pricing of the conversion work required to turn a road car into a track version is around �20,000.
The new Golf will next be in action, in Beaumont�s hands, at the end of September at Donington Park.
